Meet a Mom: Zeenat Sheikh of L'Zur Skincare

Northern Westchester Moms: Tell us more about yourself and  your background in skincare.

Zeenat Sheikh: I’m the CEO of L’Zur Skincare and Cosmetics. I am also the founder of The Voice of L’Zur, my non-profit organization that helps women who have been physically/mentally abused. We aim to help women to learn, grow and build a better future for them and their children.  We also want to help women from third-world countries, who need opportunities to grow irrespective of the distress of physical and mental abuse they endure daily.  We believe many of these distressed & abused women are so talented and deserve an opportunity to grow, but they have been suppressed for so long, they are in fear of speaking up for themselves.  This is why L’Zur wants to be the voice of many women around the globe.

The purpose and cause behind L’Zur is much more than just a simple natural skincare line. I have been in this business since I was a child. I assisted my mum by selling Avon and Mary Kay products to her customers. That was when my passion for skincare, beauty, and cosmetics grew. I want to help women feel confident and beautiful through simple makeup and a skincare routine. When a woman looks gorgeous, it gives her confidence a huge boost.

L'Zur

Northern Westchester Moms: Why was it important for you to start L’Zur?

Zeenat Sheikh: I worked in retail with multiple skincare and cosmetic lines, I love what I do and I only sold what I believed really worked well. When I was more educated in the medical aspect of skincare and learned about ingredients I realized what I was selling to clients was a bunch of lies, so many lines claim they have certain vitamin, oils certain benefits when they were mostly all toxic ingredients and very little active ingredient I was boggled by the fact how can I sell something I don’t believe in. This was the first reason I wanted to create a simple and unique line that can live up to its claims. I also wanted to give the every day women confidence such as the essential workers who don’t have the time and talent to use a complicated skincare or makeup routine I wanted to create something simple for them and everyone. I wanted to create something that’s results driven not just a natural skincare.

Additionally, I wanted to be able to help women around the world. There were quite a few women that reached out to me over a matter of a few months with such sad and distressing stories and I tried to help them as much as I could, but as time went on I wanted to help more and couldn’t think of a better way to be able to help through creating my company and a non-profit to benefit these women. When anyone purchases products from L’Zur, we will automatically donate a percentage to voices of L’Zur, my non-profit organization where women and their children can learn and grow, not just have food and shelter. The purpose and cause behind L’Zur is much more than just a simple natural skincare line.

Northern Westchester Moms: How is L’Zur different from what’s out there?

Zeenat Sheikh: My line was created by estheticians who deal with all types of skin in a daily basis. Each and every ingredient used in our skincare was so carefully researched and studied to achieve the results we wanted it to.  We believe that plants and herbs that grow in certain climates can help solve various skin ailments, so we sourced our natural, USDA certified organic ingredients from where they originated from. It was hard to create something that would give great results and would also have no harmful chemicals or toxins but still give you the best results with minimal and simple routine. And that’s what L’Zur is: a simple non toxic result driven skincare line.

Northern Westchester Moms: Tell us more about your non-profit, The Voices of L’Zur.

Zeenat Sheikh: It is a non-profit organization called “The Voice of L’Zur”, where women can learn, grow and build a better future. I feel many women worldwide, especially women from third-world countries, need opportunities to grow irrespective of the distress of physical and mental abuse they endure daily, making them feel a lack of confidence. So many of these distressed abused women are so talented and they have so much opportunity to grow but they have been suppressed for so long the fear of speaking up is impossible. And that’s why L’Zur wants to be the voice of many women around the globe. This is where The Voice of L’Zur comes in. We give them another chance, a glimmer of hope to rise again. It will be funded by donating a percentage of the sales made from L’Zur Skincare and Cosmetics.
Interviewer:

Northern Westchester Moms: Why did you want to start a non-profit organization in addition to your business?

Zeenat Sheikh: I feel like my life is a very special gift from God. After all the surgeries and problems I went through, I can still stand in six-inch heels and dance the night away. I am so grateful to have a second chance at life and all I can think of is how can I help others get this chance? As I was recovering from my health I had a few random distressed women that reached out to me for help and neither one has anything to do with the other. Listening to these women’s stories and what they go through daily was very disturbing to hear. I tried helping them as much as I could at the time and in the process of guiding these few women I completely forgot about all my problems and issues. Being able to help someone helped me recover. It is a priceless feeling to see someone do well because of you. I thought about how I can help these women more. There was no question about what I am the most passionate about and that’s skincare and cosmetics. Skincare and cosmetics have been a part of my life since I was a child.so I took my passion and tried my best to create a beautiful simple and clean skincare and cosmetic line any purchase made for L’zur products there will be a certain percentage donated to the voice of L’Zur. Our goal is to open fully funded women’s learning centers around the globe.

Northern Westchester Moms: Amazing! Tell us more about the learning/holistic center.

Zeenat Sheikh: A couple of years ago, I almost lost my life because of an addiction. I was on opioids for 7 years, and I was told they would be a regular part of my life. I was rushed to the ER; that was when I realized I had been addicted to the medications. All I could do then was to pray and hope I survive to see one more day. After all the surgeries and being confined to a wheelchair, as well as being addicted to opioids for 7 years, I finally got my life back. I haven’t taken a painkiller in 5years, and it’s a very proud feeling for me that I was able to overcome that. The holistic center is an avenue to help people overcome their addictions. I have made it my life’s mission to help people as much as I can.

Meet a Mom: Zeenat Sheikh of L'Zur Skincare

Northern Westchester Moms: What’s been the hardest aspect of starting a skincare company?

Zeenat Sheikh: Personally, one of the significant challenges I have faced is sourcing ingredients. I get the best ingredients from around the world to make sure they meet the quality and standard. Again, putting those ingredients together and getting the perfect formula takes a whole lot of time. We got discouraged at times, but we ultimately chose to persevere. For some products, it takes years of trial and error before we get the right formula, but it is worth it! And L’Zur did not compromise or settle for anything but the best, most natural, and most effective, result-driven ingredients. Each of the plant oils used in L’Zur products has multiple benefits. Another downside in the industry is when there are false claims made on a product. If I tell you this product will clear your acne and make your face smooth in one month, that product should live up to that claim. Lots of products don’t live up to the claims, making the skin worse than it was.

Northern Westchester Moms: How are you balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship?

Zeenat Sheikh: Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship has not been easy. Making sure my son is getting the right attention and time from me is very important. I had learned the hard way after going through multiple days, weeks, without spending time with my son, I didn’t realize until I saw his grades go down and it really upset me because it wasn’t his fault, I wasn’t there to help or support or to watch him as i normally did. That’s when I told myself that I had to set a routine and prioritize my tasks. being done with work when work is over, Making time for family activities,  being present in your kids lives is a healthier way of life because you don’t live with constant guilt about not being there enough. It’s very important to find that balance between work and personal life. Haaris is 13 and he is one of my biggest supporter and has always lifted my spirits and told me mom you can’t give up. He has encouraged me in every situation. I am so blessed to have a son like him.

Northern Westchester Moms: What is some advice you would give to moms who want to start their own business?

Zeenat Sheikh: I would advise them to do is make sure they have a solid business plan, and to be prepared for financial challenges. Set a routine and prioritize your tasks. Make time for family activities. Stay connected with your kids. Take care of yourself most importantly. It’s very easy to loose ourselves into what we’re doing so stay focused but know when it’s time to put that phone or pen away it’s time to put it away that’s it.

Northern Westchester Moms:  What do you like to do to unwind?

Zeenat Sheikh: The most relaxing time for me is when I am on my couch with bunch of snacks sitting in a comfy blanket watching a Netflix series with my son.  I also love to sit by the beach for hours and just read a book by Stephen King or Tana French. I love sitting by the ocean I love the sound of waves hitting against the rocks I find it very peaceful.
