The Nurtury-Montessori – Day Care Program | Northern Westchester Moms

The Nurtury is committed to promoting quality Montessori child care for children based on these key American Montessori Society concepts:

  • The aim of a Montessori program is to foster the development of basic trust and to assist in the normal development of the personality.
  • Basic trust develops in an environment where people respond appropriately to the child’s communication of needs to be loved, respected and accepted.
  • Children learn through their senses. They learn by watching and moving freely. Freedom to move is essential to the development of the infant’s potential.
  • The child is considered as a whole person and is affected by the quality of holding and feeding, as well as the quality of physical care.
  • Learning, which leads to independence, occurs when children participate in their daily routines of care.
  • Children must be spoken to in the language with which they will communicate.

What you may not know is that The Nurtury provides a prepared daycare environment for children as young as 6 weeks old.

The youngest members of the house are kept in the Nido Room (Italian for “nest”) designed with:

  • a special movement area, that is equipped with customized stands, stairs, and bars for pulling up.
  • an activity area which will expose the youngest child to Montessori manipulative, sensorial, and language materials.
  • a variety of materials and interesting objects to look at, explore and experience, which are designed to meet the developmental stages and sensitive periods of the infant.

There are currently 2,3, and 5 full day programs available. Full day hours include but are not restricted to 7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
