Stylish Storage Woven Baskets | Northern Westchester Moms

It turns out stylish storage is not an oxymoron. Whether you’re looking to tidy up after toddlers, add a natural element to a serene family room, or update your decor with chic accessories, think wicker.

Wicker is one of the oldest forms of furniture making, dating back five thousand years to ancient Egypt (talk about a classic!). Wicker refers to the technique of weaving, rather than defining the specific plant or grass that’s used. The baskets here feature a variety of materials from seagrass to raffia and bamboo to banana leaf.

What’s to love more, how beautiful the baskets are or how versatile? Use them as laundry baskets, toy storage, waste baskets, blanket storage, and even planters. Bet you can’t pick just one!

Large Coil Basket with Raffia and Handles, $60

A bargain doesn’t always impress, but this coil basket is a stunner! Well done, Threshold. The shape is pretty, the handles are practical, and the seagrass is sturdy enough to hold blankets, pillows, toys…the works.

Dot Basket, $198

Serena and Lily nailed this statement piece. Its whimsical dots are sure to draw compliments, while the size and lid will keep clutter concealed. Fashion and function collide in home decor, too…a win, win!

Savannah Seagrass Oversized Lidded Basket, $199

Pottery Barn won us over with this strong and sturdy basket. The thick weave screams playroom hero, while the earthy tone and clean corners lend themselves to a living room classic.

Hurring Bamboo Black Basket, $30

Leave it to IKEA to offer modern vibes that are both daring yet approachable. The black bamboo of the basket is striking, while the leather handles add warmth. The color is a nice alternative to the typical natural offerings.

Woven Storage Basket, $125

Jenni Kayne is synonymous with simplicity and neutral hues, so it’s no surprise that her home decor features the same quintessential low-key quality. Beachy and beautiful, this woven banana leaf basket feels quite delicate. We suggest it as a focal point in a guest bathroom or perhaps the vessel for a beautiful plant.

Old Fashioned Laundry Basket, $85

Privet’s classic laundry basket is so beautiful it may actually make the dreaded chore or washing clothes more enjoyable. The shape of it alone conjures images of sun-dried laundry happily being folded in a field of wildflowers. Ok, perhaps this is romanticizing the moment too much, but you have to love this classic shape and strong handles.

Kearney Bleached Round Basket, $190

True to its name, Hive Palm Beach curates the best of beachy chic living, and this open weave basket is the perfect nautical neutral. Made from banana bark, this large basket yearns for a cashmere throw and pillow.

Wavy Wicker Everything Basket, Set of 2, $175

Nothing says preppy more than a scallop and this lovely pair of wicker baskets does a scallop adorably. The natural rattan is strong despite the dainty curves and this means versatility. Show them off in a bathroom for hand towels (or dare we say, trash), on the kitchen counter for your utensils, or in the living room to elevate a simple green plant into a superstar statement.

Did you know rattan is not wicker but wicker can be rattan? Click here for a great article on the Amanda Lindroth website that clarifies a lot about natural fibers.
