Review from Stefanie with our sister site, Stamford Moms
As the parents of two small children… date nights are very rare for my husband and me. So, when we have a babysitter and head out we love knowing that we are going to a restaurant that will not only feel special, but also that we will truly enjoy. That’s why we were absolutely delighted the first time we tried The Farmhouse at the Crossroads! We enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much that after our first meal we quickly made a reservation at the North Stamford restaurant for our next night out with friends to celebrate my birthday!
What makes The Farmhouse at the Crossroads even more special for me personally is that I grew up in North Stamford and have dined in the historic building (built in 1875) at 2635 Long Ridge Road for years. Seeing how the inside of the building has been newly designed is remarkable to me. Each of the four dining rooms is now a celebration of Earth. Air. Fire. Water. The Air room is alive with movement and light for a simple yet elegant experience, while the water room will whisk you away with its 26-foot waterfall and inspired decor. Yes, one of the rooms even features swings as dining chairs! You also have the option to dine outdoors near a cozy fire and enjoy live music on the weekends!
When it comes to the food… The Farmhouse at the Crossroads is a celebration of almost 150 years of old and new cuisines, traditions, and culture. We enjoyed everything we ordered during our first two visits. So, I was thrilled when Chef Matthew Cook invited us for a tasting one afternoon! The tasting included 10 dishes… definitely a lot of food for two people. But we honestly loved every single dish we tried… and wished we had room for more! That being said, these are my recommendations for ordering!
Definitely try the Wildfire Margarita or the Cloud 9! Also, be sure to check out their selection of wine and beer.
My absolute favorite are the Milk & Honey Crostinis! Homemade saffron ricotta, toasted walnuts, local honey caviar and minted maldon salt. Another must try is the Crispy Pork Belly! Slow-smoked slab over Asian black peppercorn sauce, tahini sheep’s milk yogurt, roasted peanuts, minced pickle, lime… and oh my goodness delicious! We loved the Tuna TarTacos! Hand cut Ahi Tuna, truffle ponzu sauce, marinated hijiki, siracha pearls, avocado mousse in toasted nori wonton shells. We couldn’t get enough of the Fig & Pig Flatbread (we have ordered it twice). Sausage, black mission figs, pork belly, manchego, mozzarella, spicy honey and arugula. This is a great one to share! The Maine Mussels are perfect for sharing, too… definitely ask for extra toasted bread for dipping! If you’re looking for something light and summery, order the Caprese! It’s made with local heirloom tomatoes, homemade truffle burrata, basil variations, balsamic pearls and the most refreshing cucumber sorbet!
My absolute favorite entree is the Squid Ink Linguine tossed with fresh Maine lobster tail, jumbo lump crab, asparagus, spinach sea foam in a miso beurre blanc sauce! This is a must try! We also really enjoyed the Wagyu Filet Mignon with summer vegetables, fennel and mushroom textures, morel au poivre and cabernet salt. This is also a good one to share! If you’re looking for a fish option, the Salmon is cooked perfectly with a crispy outside and served with delicious vegetables. If you’re looking for a vegan option (or just something delicious), the Squash Blossoms are absolutely delicious! They are stuffed with vegan ricotta, whipped & crumbled tofu, summer squash, coconut onion, jalapeño purée and almond coconut crumble.
The Pain Perdu Donuts are a must (and great for sharing)! Crunchy Grand Marnier french toast, dulce de leche, coconut and strawberry jam. The S’Mores is perfect for chocolate lovers! Warm flourless chocolate cake, toasted marshmallow and graham cracker. The Kitchen Sink is on my list to try next time (with help of course)… because it looks like heaven on a plate!
