Our Meet a Dad this week is with Dr. Daniel Brein of Dentistry for Children that just opened in Mount Kisco! Meet Dr. Dan as he is referred to by his patients, learn why he became a dentist and his favorite things and spots to go with his family!
Northern Westchester Mom: Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I’m originally from York, Pennsylvania. After college at Penn State, I went on to complete
dental school and my specialty in pediatrics at Harvard, where I was lucky enough to meet my
wife. After the birth of our first child in 2019, we moved to Westchester to be close to family.
Northern Westchester Mom: Child(ren) and Age(s)?
We have two children (ages 3 and 2) who keep us very busy
Northern Westchester Mom: One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I love to play music in my spare time – something I’ve been doing throughout my life. As a
father and pediatric dentist, I now focus on writing and performing health related, silly songs for
my children and patients.
Northern Westchester Mom: Anyone special you would like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My parents have been an incredible resource throughout my fatherhood journey. I am
extremely lucky to have wonderful role models in them.
Northern Westchester Mom: Favorite things to do with your kids?
Reading books together and the snuggle time that always goes with it
Northern Westchester Mom: How did you know you wanted to be a dentist?
I was naturally drawn towards a career in healthcare as a teenager. And it was actually my
parents who suggested dentistry, as I was always very social and quite dexterous – I played piano
and guitar throughout my life. When I arrived at dental school, I discovered that pediatrics is
exactly where I should be. It is the specialty within dentistry that is the most focused on
prevention of dental disease, which is something I value highly. My profession also allows me to let my inner silly kid out every day as I help guide children and families towards healthy smiles. My days are rewarding, happy, and fun.
Northern Westchester Mom: How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
My wife grew up in Chappaqua, so I have been coming to the area regularly since we met many years
ago. Even in the time before we moved here ourselves, it became a second home. When we did make the
move, we were lucky enough to move into a closely knit neighborhood. With that feeling of family and
community support, it made it very easy to make the big decision to put down professional roots here. I
have also always been drawn towards Mt. Kisco, specifically. This is such a vibrant and diverse
community that I feel lucky to now be serving.
Northern Westchester Mom: We would love to know your favorites?
Favorite restaurant with the kids?
– We love picking up breakfast sandwiches from Rocky’s and having picnics and playtime at Gedney
Park.
Fave local date night?
– Jardin du Roi in Chappaqua.
Fave place to have fun as a family?
Muscoot Farm, especially on Farmer’s Market Sundays.
