Jennifer Mitchell, founder of Dream Teepee Party takes these parties to the next level where her clients choose a color story/theme that pairs with her teepees. This Westchester mama also sets up and takes down the parties where your kiddo can have the ultimate sleepover without you having to stress over the planning. Sounds amazing, right? Interview with Jennifer Mitchell, Founder of Dream Teepee Party
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I moved a lot as a child but spent most of my childhood/early adulthood in the Syracuse & Buffalo areas. I migrated downstate in my early 20’s and have been living in Katonah for almost four years!
One thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Don’t be fooled by my blonde hair, blue eyes and light skin…I am part Native American Indian!
Tell us more about Dream Teepee Party.
A Dream Teepee Party will take your next sleepover party to the next level! Simply choose a color story/theme to pair with our teepees and we will take care of everything (set up and take down). Party packages include everything from the teepees, air mattresses, sheets, blankets, decorative pillows, area rugs, garland, twinkle lights, lanterns and breakfast trays.
How did the idea for Dream Teepee Party come how did you go about starting it?
I am always looking for unique and creative business ideas! I ran across similar companies in New Zealand and Australia online and thought it would be a hit here in Westchester County! One day I just decided I’ll give it a go! I ordered a few tents, bedding and decor and then set up in my bedroom for pictures. I posted those photos online (Facebook & Instagram) and then one thing led to another!
What can people expect when they work with you?
I absolutely have loved working with each and every client! It’s pretty amazing to create something that brings so much joy! You can expect full attention to details and hopefully a fun, stress free experience.
How are you trying to reach moms in the community?
We have grown organically through recommendations and word of mouth. We are able to reach moms simply through Facebook (Dream Teepee Party page) and on Instagram (Follow us at @dreamteepeeparty!).
What are some of the challenges that you face as a mom and business owner?
I also have a full-time corporate job in Visual Merchandising for a well-known lifestyle brand. Mom/business owner/work/personal life balance! Keeping all of these balls in the air at all times is my life currently!
What are some of your favorite me time things to do in Westchester?
I very much love the simple things such as wandering around our cute town of Katonah; grabbing salad at Katonah Reading Room, a coffee from Little Joe’s and fresh blooms from our Village Market. I also love going to our local farmer’s markets such as John Jay Homestead and Muscoot Farm! And my secret paradise is shopping Target in Mount Kisco on a Friday night…solo…maybe I’ll see you there!
What are some of your favorite things to do with your kids in your area?
We feel extremely lucky to live in a such a beautiful county with small town vibes! We love to explore local parks, towns, farms and art together. Some of our favorite times have been doing farm chores at Muscoot Farm, looking for frogs at the pond on John Jay Homestead, pizza and art night at Katonah Art Center, movies at the new & improved Bedford Playhouse, and live theatre performances at the Bedford Community Theatre.
