Thanks to our friends at The Well Center NY in Armonk they shared some creative ideas to get the candy out of your house!

๐ฆ๐ช๐๐ง๐๐ ๐ช๐๐ง๐๐: Think of this like the “tooth fairy” but for Halloween. Give them each a container that they can keep for all of their favorites. Then in a separate container, the kids put all the extras that don’t fit into their personal loot. And tell them that the switch witch will be coming later to take their candy and switch it for a toy. Something small or crafty works best. The next morning, the candy is GONE and the little gift is left signed by the Switch Witch.

๐๐ฅ๐ง๐ช๐ข๐ฅ๐: Dump all the candy out of their wrappers and create an original Picasso out of candy and glue. Take a picture and you get to throw it all away at the end!โฃ

๐๐๐ก๐๐ก๐๐ฆ๐ฆ: Make little bags or packages with thank you tags and leave them for the mail carrier, UPS driver, or trash collector. Deliver to the fire or police station, set out in baskets in the waiting rooms at the hospital. Brainstorm with your kids about people who often go without even a thank you that help your family and community, such a simple but meaningful lesson!โฃ

๐๐ข๐ฅ ๐ง๐๐ ๐๐๐ง๐ง๐๐ ๐ข๐ก๐๐ฆ: Use the candy for a little learning – all those brightly covered wrappers make for some fun sorting & patterning activities! Or another idea is to โmake a potion.โ The steps are simple: bring a few cups of water to a boil, then remove from heat. Unwrap all the candy and put it into the pot. You can let your child predict in advance what color it might be, whether it will all mix together or if youโll get some โcurds and wheyโ type of texture. After theyโve had fun stirring it all around and exclaiming over the gooeyness and grossness, you can pour it on a compost pile or down the toilet.โฃ
