Meet a Mom Gillian Fox President & Chief Executive Officer of Caramoor - Northern Westchester Moms

Meet Gillian Fox the new President and CEO of Caramoor!   She is sharing with us about Caramoor and her faves for the area and more!

Where are you both from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I’m originally from Holmdel, New Jersey, and my husband, Michael, is from Adrian, Michigan. We recently moved to Bedford from Newport, Rhode Island, this past June, and have loved the warmth and sense of community here.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

Charlotte (3)

One thing people would be surprised to know about you….

When I was little, I wanted to be a marine biologist, and I’ve been scuba diving for more than twenty years and have logged over a hundred dives. I can’t wait to share my love of the ocean with Charlotte.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

Michael and I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by such a wonderful support system. Even though our families don’t live nearby, they remain deeply involved in Charlotte’s life, and we were lucky to have an incredibly supportive circle of friends in Newport. While we miss them dearly, we’re so happy to have already begun meeting wonderful new friends here in Bedford. It truly takes a village!

Favorite things to do with your child/children?

With two parents working in the music industry, Charlotte’s life is filled with live music. We’ve been bringing her to concerts since she was born, and she’s felt right at home at Caramoor. She’s already attended eight performances and even had the chance to meet several musicians. We love exposing her to all kinds of music, and Caramoor provides such a welcoming, comfortable environment for children to explore their musical interests. When I accepted this opportunity, I didn’t realize how quickly Caramoor would feel like home for our family, and I hope to welcome many more Westchester families to feel the same way. And when we’re not at Caramoor, you can usually find us at the Bedford Hills Playground.

Tell us about Caramoor and one of your fave things so far?

Caramoor is a vibrant cultural destination nestled on 81 acres of historic gardens and woodlands in Katonah. Once the home of music and art lovers Walter and Lucie Rosen, Caramoor has evolved into one of the region’s most distinctive locations for live performances, cultural engagement, and exploration—a sanctuary for music, art, and nature.

With 50 to 60 concerts each year spanning a wide range of genres and settings, as well as tours of the historic Rosen House and elegant afternoon teas, I love how Caramoor offers something for everyone, whether you’re planning a family outing, a date night, or a gathering with friends. Also, many people don’t realize that the grounds are open to the public for free from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm every day, unless there is a concert or private event, so if you’ve never been to Caramoor or haven’t visited since our campus renovations during the pandemic, I hope you’ll come explore all that’s new and rediscover the magic of Caramoor.

What is a must do at Caramoor?

There are so many wonderful ways to experience Caramoor that it’s hard to choose just one. Our Jazz and Roots Festivals, along with any concert on Friends Field, are perfect for families and kids of all ages. There’s plenty of space to dance and play, and you can bring a picnic or enjoy concessions on site. We’re excited to introduce new public programs next year, including concerts and experiences designed just for kids.

Tell us about your mom life and how do you balance it all?

I find that Charlotte is constantly teaching me new things about myself and the world. I love rediscovering life through her eyes and being reminded to slow down. I’ve learned that compartmentalizing is my best tool, allowing me to be fully present when I’m home with my family and completely focused on my work when Charlotte is at school. The moments I get to involve her in my work are truly the best, and I’m so grateful to have such a wonderful partner in Michael and a strong support system that allows us to share the journey without always needing to divide and conquer.
