Adventure to Thousand Islands and Canada - Northern Westchester Moms

Our summer travels took us to the Thousand Islands and Canada this summer!     It was a quiet but a fun filled spot with beauty and history!

If you are looking for a great summer getaway this trip can do this for you, especially with kids in the middle as we put it in our house.   Our twins are 10.5 years old and they loved the history and adventures.

Thousands Islands NY:

We stayed in Alexandria Bay which was about 5.5 hours from Northern Westchester.

Where did we stay?

We stayed at Capt.Thompson’s Resort which was right on the river.

What did we do in the Thousand Islands

We were on the St Lawrence River, so we were on the river learning about the islands and the history!

2 spots I would recommend:

Uncle Sam’s Boat Tours, which were amazing for seeing the Boldt Castle and more!

Clayton Island Tours we did the glass bottom boat tour which provided a stop at the Rock Island Lighthouse which was filled with beauty and history.    A treasure hunt for the kids was also a fun spot on this island!

We did mini golf and go karts which are always fun and a great way to break up a day and create memories!

We went to Sackets Harbor and visited Lake Ontario.   We also learned about the War of 1812 at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield

We ventured into Canada and the border was so close about 20 minutes from Alexandria Bay,  so grab your passports and enjoy our neighbor to the north

Where we stopped in Canada…..

Brockville:

1000 Islands Brewing Company was a great spot to have a delicious drink all made in house and the food was delicious too!

It was a short walk to the Brockville Railway Tunnel which was such a different experience of lights and music!

Ottawa:

Capital City of Canada!

So much history and an easy city to navigate with kids!

We saw the ceremonial changing of the guard which was such a learning experience for the kids, right on the Parliament Hill!    We learned about the Canadian government and how it functions, they offer tours.

We visited the ByWard Market a must if you are in Ottawa!     So many great restaurants and shops to explore, such a wonderful place to people watch and enjoy the culture!

Kingston

Such a fun lively river town in Canada!    Lots of history but also a fantastic river walk with amazing views of Lake Ontario!

So many great restaurants and a trolley tour that was so much fun!  Check out more fun in Kingston here

This trip was a memorable one of history, culture and fun!
