Meet an Orthodontist (and cat mom!) – Dr. Tamara Kroboth of Valley Orthodontics.
Where are you originally from, and where do you live now?
I am born and raised on Long Island in Bethpage. I then attended Stony Brook University (Where I met my husband, Alex in freshman year!) and continued at the University for Dental School as well as my Orthodontic Residency.
What is your long-term vision for the company?
I have been with Valley Pediatric Dentistry since the Spring of 2018.
I take great personal pride in Valley Orthodontics because I have helped grow it from the ground up. I love that we are able to bring about positive changes to families in our community in the form of both smile transformations and sponsoring community events.

What is some advice you can give to any parents bringing their child to the orthodontist for the first time?
It is recommended by the American Association of Orthodontics that your child have their first orthodontic consultation at age 7. At that visit, a panoramic image will be taken of your child’s mouth which will help the orthodontist evaluate your child for dental crowding and any malocclusions that need to be addressed. After the doctor’s exam, any treatment your child needs will be reviewed and explained. Please be sure to bring in your dental insurance information as well.
How did you end up working in this industry?
My husband Alex (then boyfriend) and I applied to dental school together. We both attended Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine. While there, I underwent my own orthodontic treatment, including jaw surgery (!!!). Suffice it to say I spent so much time with the residents in the orthodontic program as well as experienced first hand what it’s like to undergo complex orthodontic treatment, that I was inspired to pursue it as my career. I haven’t looked back once!
What is your first memory of the dentist/orthodontist?
Sadly, I actually have no memory of going to the dentist as a child, but the above experience is why I became an orthodontist. Fun Fact – I can’t remember losing any of my baby teeth (sadly).
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Seeing kids who are nervous or scared of the dentist come out of their shells! It is so rewarding to see our patients grow in confidence with both their smiles and in coping with dental treatment.
Fun fact your patients may not know about you?
I love cats, gardening and reading! Last year my husband and I built a greenhouse in our yard and I love bringing in fresh veggies to share with our team.
