The Soul of the Species Opens at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation

June 11 @ 8:00 am - June 12 @ 5:00 pm

The Soul of the Species, an exhibit of wildlife photography featuring the work of top-notch photographer Dona Tracy, will open with receptions on June 11 and June 12 at the Gallery in The Park at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.  A lifelong lover of nature and photography who founded and directs Wildcare Inc. and the Hudson Valley Raptor Center, Dona Tracy received her first camera, a box Brownie, at age ten.  She put the camera – which went with her everywhere – to good use, as her fascination with the natural world grew alongside her joy at being able to capture images of it on film.  That childhood experience led her to choose a 40-year-long career as a professional photographer, a career she could only dream of as a child.  Employing both black-and-white and color photography, and relying on natural light for most of her work, Dona Tracy captures her subjects where and how they are in the world.

The exhibit is organized and overseen by Art in the Park, a program that brings changing exhibits of sculpture, paintings, photography and other forms of artwork to this Westchester County Park to engage visitors of all ages and to encourage conversation about, and appreciation of, two-and-three-dimensional art.  The opening reception on Saturday June 11 will feature live music and refreshments.  A wildlife lecture by longtime educator and biologist Bill Robinson featuring live animals will be the highlight of the reception on Sunday June 12.  Both events will run from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.  For more information about Art in the Park, call (914)864-7317.

A park and biodiversity preserve operated by the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, Ward Pound Ridge Reservation offers 36 miles of hiking trails, camping, picnic areas, and the bucolic Cross River.  You can find more information about the Reservation at www.westchestergov.com/parks
